Memorial City Concrete Experts

Memorial City is a city in the western part of metropolitan Houston, Texas that specializes in developing and preserving commercial real estate.

It is located west of Interstate 10 (Katy Freeway) and inside Beltway 8 (Sam Houston Tollway). Although it may seem like an insignificant residential neighborhood on first impression, the truth is that it has more to offer than meets the eye!

Early History of Memorial City

The land was originally acquired by Rice University after a lengthy legal battle with a group of neighbors from River Oaks. Before then, the area was used as a dairy farm for many years with very minimal community activity along its shores. The university itself had no intention of developing any structures at first until they met with Gerald D. Hines, a well-known architectural firm in the 1960s.

Hines had agreed on developing Memorial City Mall along with several other smaller buildings near Rice University. The mall was eventually established in 1968 and it housed many different amenities including an ice skating rink among other things. It also received its name around this time which is derived from an old law that stated any new construction must be named after the nearest street or neighborhood, which happened to be called Memorial Drive at the time.

The developer continued with their plans of creating more commercial services by establishing many apartment complexes just south of Memorial City Mall along Gessner Road. This provided great opportunities for prospective tenants since they were able to shop, work, and live all within close proximity. Although slow at first, Memorial City began to gain massive momentum in the 1990s when it became extremely apparent that Houston was growing at an exponential rate. More and more people moved into the area because of its close proximity to downtown Houston, which allowed them easy access to airports, train stations, and other high-paying jobs.

Among other attractions near Memorial City are Town & Country Village shopping center (opened in 1987), Town & Country Club tennis courts (opened in 1984), Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center (opened in 1981), Antoine Forest Park (opened in 2001), Gessner Elementary School (opened in 1995), River Oaks Baptist Church (established 1956).

Additionally, notable companies such as ExxonMobil have had their headquarters in this area since the 1970s.

Today, Memorial City is one of the most peaceful and exclusive neighborhoods in Houston because its developers have gone out of their way to maintain its charm while still providing new opportunities for growth.
