Because most houses are far apart from each other and sit on larger lots, noise is rarely an issue; however, traffic can be heavy on some major thoroughfares.

Kingwood’s shopping centers include The Woodlands Mall, which was once considered the largest mall in Greater Houston by floor space; Kingwood Town Center, Humble Town Center (previously the Northwest Mall), and Eastex Freeway Mall.

Kingwood was named after William P. King who received a land grant from the Mexican government. Kingwood was initially used to raise and breed horses for the Mexican Army. King’s son, John A. W. King inherited and later sold the land which became today’s Kingwood.
