Humble, Texas is a great place to visit.
It has become one of the fastest-growing communities in the country since it opened up as a new town on September 29, 1955. The city’s population boom began during the oil boom period of the early 1960s and continued through 1970.
Humble is located 30 miles east of Houston off Highway 59 via Humble Road or Wilson Road, right between Kingwood and Atascocita – two other booming communities. Humble was first settled by Josiah Humble who brought his family around 1859. He cut hay for area ranchers and hauled it to Houston on ox-drawn wagons. A post office was established in 1884 with Josiah Humble serving as its first postmaster. His family continued to live there until 1938 when the site was sold for $11,000. The land lay idle and unclaimed during World War II and then in 1955, Humble opened up as a new town under the direction of oilman Glenn Humble (unrelated to Josiah) and his company Eagle Oil Company, which was later absorbed by Exxon Company USA under the name Exxon Chemical Company.
Humble is home to Houston’s favorite amusement park – Hurricane Harbor SplashTown in Humble, Texas. It features 36 major attractions including six world-class roller coasters, a 10-acre water play structure, over 20 slides, and other rides that everyone can enjoy from infants on up to grandparents!
So whether you want to visit an amusement park, swim in a waterpark, play 18 holes on a world-class golf course, hike and bike some of the best nature trails in Humble, or even go on a hayride while tasting award-winning wines at the vineyards, Humble is for you. The city’s location about 20 miles from Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Hobby Airport (HOU) makes it very convenient for vacations if you live out of town. Its average high temperature in summer is 95 degrees however, during most summer days expect temperatures that hover between 85 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit up until August when they do occasionally reach 100 degrees for a day or two. The mild climate allows residents and visitors to enjoy the many outdoor activities available all year long.
