The Jersey Village, Texas history can be traced back to the 1890s. At that time, the Aldine community was located in this area with a sawmill and cotton gins.
Even as late as 1914 there were still many farms and ranches with cattle and corn as prominent products.
The town of Jersey Village began with the planned development of the Kullman-Pure Oil Company outside Houston by J. B. Watkins in 1923 on land purchased from D. A. Jervey and Tattle Tate of Liberty County, and John H. Murphy of Montgomery County. This new residential addition was situated along the east side of Highway 290 just east of where it intersects with what is now Interstate 10. The name “Jersey” was selected to honor the oil company’s New Jersey-based management and “Village” was added since Watkins wanted it to be an exclusive residential subdivision.
